Powering GB rail travel
FastJP aims to do one thing and do it well: we provide journey planning software for the rail network in Great Britain. We understand that, two decades into the 21st Century, optimal journey planning is still not a "solved problem" and we invest heavily in R&D to continuously improve our products. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and on the accuracy of the results our software provides.
FastJP was born out of frustration with the lack of flexibility and poor performance of existing commercially-available journey planner software. The co-founders decided that the only available option was to develop their own journey planner, and the company was founded in 2015 with the aim of commercialising it. Within 18 months our software was powering the majority of online fares sales in Great Britain - and that was only the beginning!
Our head office is in Stafford but our team is scattered across the country and we mainly work remotely. Together we have many years of experience working with rail fares & timetable data, providing high availability business-to-business solutions and of software engineering & operations in general.
Director and Technical Lead, Timetable & API
Nick is charge of the API and timetabling systems for FastJP. Starting in around 2010 with industry fares data, since 2015 he's worked full-time with fares, timetable, routeing, reservation and real-time data. For many years, Nick was an IT manager in education and has worked in areas from IT support, infrastructure, servers, databases and programming. He's a fan of cloud computing and likes going for long walks with his dog, come rain or shine.
Director and Technical Lead, Fares & Routeing
Paul is responsible for the fares & routeing components of the FastJP journey planner. He has been working with rail industry fares data since 2010, initially as a hobby, but since 2015 as a full-time occupation. He has many years' experience writing high performance server-side software, particularly for the broadcast and music industries but also in processing geographical data and automated cartography.
Reza brings vast experience of the business travel and commercial payments sector, developed as both a computer engineer and business director, to his role as Commercial Director at FastJP. He also has an excellent understanding of the economics of rail retailing, developed over many years supplying ticketing and payment services to various retailers.
Andy is a rescuer of rats, defender of hedgehogs and supporter of lions, tigers and bears. At FastJP he's responsible for all infrastructure and security. He also oversees our Continuous Integration and Delivery endeavours.
In his 20 year career, he's been a developer, sys admin, speaker, trainer, and small business owner. For the last 10 he's focused on automation and security.
Away from work, he's the world's greatest* Guitar Hero and Rock Band axe slinger. *May not be entirely true.
Laurence has been a passionate advocate of rail travel since he was a teenager, and to this day he still does not own a car! Traveling everywhere by rail gives him a rare and distinctive insight from the point of view of the passenger. He puts this to great use in constantly evaluating the quality of the journey planner results produced by FastJP, enabling us to stay ahead of our competitors.
Outside work he has an interest in computing, enjoys travelling, walking and cycling as well as both playing and watching football.
